Treñas bats for cheaper COVID-19 tests

Mayor Jerry Treñas wants to make swab tests for the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cheaper to help businesses reduce financial burdens.

In a statement on Sunday, Sept. 5, Treñas said he will request the City Council to lower the rate of RT-PCR (reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction) tests to P1,800.

This, according to the mayor “is in response to the request of the business sector since as they reopen their businesses, they need to continuously test their employees and themselves.”

The RT-PCR test is considered the “gold standard” for detecting infections.

The city government runs the USWAG Molecular Laboratory in Barangay San Pedro, Molo district. It started processing swab samples in November last year.

The city, which is currently under modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ), has recorded 1,952 active cases of COVID-19 as of Sept. 5.IMT
