Mayor Jerry Treñas on Wednesday, Oct. 28, said he is open to the possibility of staging the second edition of Miss Universe Philippines (MUP) in Iloilo City next year.
The idea of having the pageant in the city was floated by netizens after Rabiya Mateo won the most coveted crown.
Mateo, a 24-year-old physical therapy graduate, represented Iloilo City in MUP 2020, which was held in Baguio City from Oct. 15 to 25.
In a report by radio station Aksyon Radyo, Treñas said if the hosting pushes through, it would help the city’s tourism industry get back on its feet.
Tourism activities in the city had been canceled due to the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.IMT
