Mayor Jerry Treñas expressed dismay over the failure of the Department of Health (DOH-6) to coordinate with the Iloilo City Government on the arrival of COVID-19 vaccines in the metropolis.

In an interview over radio station Aksyon Radyo-Iloilo, Treñas said he is having a hard time working with the DOH-6 to speed up the rollout of vaccines against COVID-19 in city hospitals.

According to the mayor, the health department in Western Visayas has “no sense of urgency.”

Trenas urged the DOH-6 to move faster in distributing the vaccines they received from the national government.

“The vaccines are not bangus (milk fish) that should be kept on the freezer. These should be used immediately,” he said.

A total of 17,400 China-made Sinovac vaccine doses were received by the region on March 5. They are intended for health workers in key COVID-19 referral hospitals.

On March 10, an additional 26,880 Sinovac and AstraZeneca vaccine doses donated by the Chinese government and Western countries arrived in the region.IMT
