Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas clarified that “there is no truth” to a Facebook post claiming that the dog pound and shelter at the Calajunan Sanitary Landfill in Mandurriao district is practicing euthanasia.

In a statement, Treñas said the “Iloilo City Government through the City Dog Pound and Animal Shelter “vehemently denied” the July 22 post by “SPAR Strategic Power for Animal Respondents – Philippines”.

According the Mayor, the facility has no record per logbook of the alleged dog caught on July 20 in Barangay Navais, Mandurriao.

“There were only three dogs logged on the same day upon receipt after they were taken from Iloilo Business Park area,” said Treñas.

“The owner checked the dog twice at the city pound but it was nowhere to be found since there was no turnover of the same that took place,” he added.

The facility was opened on June 14 “to take care of impounded strays, administer anti-rabies vaccine and conduct neuter and spay as preparation prior to adoption by responsible pet owners.”

“Dog profiles are posted on Official Facebook Page of City Pound for possible adoption. To date, the City Pound released six dogs adopted by their new owners during the period of July 19-21, 2022; and the Office of City Veterinarian conducted neuter of 26 male dogs and spay of four female dogs,” Treñas noted.

“There are a total of 54 dogs including 25 females, 24 males and five puppies being taken cared of as of today July 22, 2022,” he added.IMT
