Mayor Jerry Treñas’ social media posts related to the quarantine status of Iloilo City have caused confusion among the public.
In a statement posted on his official Facebook page Thursday morning, Sept. 24, Treñas said the city government’s COVID-19 Team recommended to revert the status of the city back to GCQ (general community quarantine).
After about three hours, the mayor made another post, saying that the COVID-19 Team changed its earlier recommendation.
The team wanted to put the city under ECQ (enhanced community quarantine) for 15 days to arrest the rising COVID-19 cases in the metropolis.
“The cases in the city continue to shoot up and we need your cooperation to help eliminate the virus. We need to act fast to protect the lives of the Ilonggos,” Treñas said.
The recommendation is still subject to the approval of the Inter-Agency Task Force Force (IATF) on Emerging Infectious Diseases.
“I am coordinating with Secretaries Delfin Lorenzana, Eduardo Año, Carlito Galvez Jr., Karlo Nograles and Francisco Duque III. Also with the regional directors of the Office of Civil Defense (OCD-6), Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), and the Department of Health (DOH). Sec. Lorenzana and Sec. Año told me they support our decision,” Treñas said.IMT
