Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas has called on the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to speed up the repair of the defective Ungka Flyover.

The P680-million flyover, which sits between the city and the town of Pavia, was closed to traffic on Sept. 18, due to “vertical displacement.”

In his letter to DPWH Secretary Manuel Bonoan, Treñas emphasized the need for the immediate reopening of the four-lane flyover.

“It is highly anticipated that repairs are made [round]-the-clock to expedite the reopening [but] without compromising public safety, ” he said.

The mayor also inquired about the status of the Aganan Flyover in Pavia. The construction of flyover started in 2020.

“These infrastructures need to be rectified and made accessible immediately as its effects are pivotal to the flow of people and goods,” said Treñas.

The national government-funded flyover projects are contracted to International Builders Corporation (IBC), an Iloilo-based construction firm.

These aim to lessen travel time from Iloilo City to the Iloilo International Airport and vice versa.IMT
