Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas believes that presumptive vice president Sara Duterte-Carpio is capable of leading the country’s education department.
“While Mayor Sara is nor an education expert her wealth of experience as mayor and chair of the school board gives her the necessary training to know what our educational system lacks,” Treñas said in a statement.
“She will ensure synergy between the resources of the local government thru the special education fund and the national government thru programs and projects of the DepEd,” he added.
On Wednesday, May 13, presumptive president Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. announced that Carpio agreed to serve as secretary of the Department of Education (DepEd).
“She is a mother and she wants to make sure that her children are well-trained and well-educated. That’s the best motivation that we can hope for,” he said in a press briefing.
Treñas also welcomed Marcos’ decision to designate former Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Chairman Benjamin “Benhur” Abalos Jr. as secretary of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG).
“I have worked with chairman Abalos since we together in the League of Cities and on my last term on my first round I was chairman while he was president of the League of Cities of the Philippines,” he said.
“He can work very well as a consensus building. He is a fraternal brod at the Ateneo Law School and he comes well-prepared for his position,” the Mayor further said.IMT
