Mayor Jerry Treñas has urged power distributor MORE Electric and Power Corporation (MORE Power) to look for ways to avoid hours-long brownouts in Iloilo City.
In a press conference on Monday, June 1, Treñas said that he had received complaints from consumers about lengthy power service interruptions.
In the past weeks, several parts of the city experienced scheduled brownouts which lasted for hours.
In its advisories, MORE Power said the interruptions were needed to give way to “comprehensive preventive and parallel corrective maintenance” works.
“We have to undertake maintenance works to prevent longer and unscheduled brownouts,” MORE Power president Roel Castro explained.
Treñas said he would set a meeting with Castro to discuss the complaints.
“While we understand nga kinanglan gid man ang mga ulubrahon sa substations kag mga poste, ti ang epekto sini sa mga tawo masyado gid kadako,” he told reporters.
The city government recognized MORE Power as the new and sole power distributor in the metropolis.
MORE Power took over the distribution assets of Panay Electric Co. (PECO) in March this year.IMT
