The newly constructed Ungka Flyover in the town of Pavia, Iloilo will remain closed until works to ensure the safety of motorists are completed, said Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas.

The P680-million flyover, which was designed to lessen travel time from the city to the Iloilo International Airport and vice versa, was temporarily closed on Sept. 18 due to “strange structural” behaviors.

According to Treñas, Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH-6) assistant regional director Al Fruto told him that the closure will not take a long time.

“Indi man nila pag-abrehan kuno kon may safety issues. Ang ginapasalig nila nga one month and half time mabalik na ina kag mapa-usar na sa mga pumuluyo,” he said.

“Ang esplikar sang DPWH nga kinahanglan kuno one month and half para sa shoring, daw ginabutangan nila sang laki-laki para indi na mag-usmod ang flyover,” the mayor further said.

The construction of the flyover was undertaken by Iloilo-based International Builders Corp. (IBC). It was opened to traffic in June.IMT
