Iloilo City Mayor Jerry P. Treñas has expressed support for the plans mentioned by President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos in his first State of the Nation Address (SONA) on Monday, July 25.
“I applaud the positive and dynamic direction of PBBM for the country as outlined in his COVID-19 priority measures,” said Treñas.
“Iloilo City under my administration is excited to work with his plans for the coming years,” he added.
The mayor welcomed Marcos’ “sound outlook for overseas Filipino workers (OFWs), migrant workers and foreign policies.”
Marcos, who got a massive support from OFWs in the 2022 polls, announced that a One Repatriation Command Center (ORCC) will be established to provide prompt response to overseas Filipinos in times of crisis abroad.
“Para sa mga kababayan nating naiipit sa kaguluhan, inaabuso, at nanganganib ang buhay, ikinagagalak kong sa ilalim ng aking pamumuno, ay ilulunsad natin ang ORCC,” he said.
Marcos is also eyeing to shorten the processing of requirements and documents of Filipinos who wish to work abroad.
“Mula sa tatlong buwan ay gagawin na lamang nating tatlong linggo para sa isang dayuhang employer na i-proseso ang mga papeles ng Filipinong nais nitong kunin bilang empleyado,” he said.
Moreover, Treñas “admired” Marcos’ “stance on environment, PPP (public-private partnership) and focus on quality education.”
The president is pushing for the transition to renewable energy to mitigate the worst impacts of climate change on the country.
“We will increase our use of renewable energy sources such as hydropower, geothermal, solar, and wind,” he said.
Marcos will also continue to encourage PPP as it plans to expand the infrastructure projects.
In the education sector, the President said preparations are underway for the implementation of full face-to-face classes in the upcoming school year “with utmost consideration of the students and teachers’ safety.
“As for the horror stories that we have heard about the poor quality of education materials and supplies, this must end,” Marcos added.IMT
