Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas has suggested distributing the educational cash assistance by school.
“If the reason of DSWD (Department of Social Welfare and Development) is to avoid going through the LGUs (local government units), the financial assistance can be coursed thru the schools. It will be easier and more convenient,” Treñas said in a statement.
In Western Visayas, DSWD-6 opened one payout site per province. The region has six provinces, namely Iloilo, Aklan, Antique, Capiz, Guimaras and Negros Occidental.
The Iloilo Sports Complex in La Paz district served as the venue for the distribution in Iloilo. It was swamped by thousands of students, parents and guardians on Saturday, August 20 — the first day of distribution.
The DSWD’s educational assistance program aims to provide financial aid to indigent students which they can use for various school necessities.IMT
