Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas wants Ramir Uytico removed from his position as regional director of the Department of Education (DepEd) in Western Visayas (WV) and replaced with “someone else.”
The call for Uytico’s removal came after he filed libel and other complaints against four broadcasters of radio station Radio Mindanao Network (RMN-Iloilo) before the City Prosecutor’s Office last Jan. 23.
In a statement, Treñas said Uytico’s action created “great controversy” and “it would be better if he is reassigned to another region.”
According to the mayor, WV deserves “someone else who will be more effective in taking care of the educational needs of our children.”
Uytico accused Henry Lumawag, Novie Guazo, Regan Arlos, and Israel Vincent “Don” Dolido of committing the crime of libel and violating the Cybercrime Prevention Act, Safe Spaces Act, and the Data Privacy Act.
The complaints stemmed from commentaries made by the four veteran broadcasters on their radio programs on the performance of Uytico as head of DepEd’s regional office.IMT
