Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas was “terribly dismayed” over the trash left scattered along the newly opened Iloilo Sunset Boulevard.

“This is completely unacceptable. The government has worked hard to build and beautify this space, and I will not allow it to be disrespected,” Treñas said in a statement.

On Sunday, Feb. 2, the General Services Office (GSO) and the City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) led the cleanup operation at the boulevard.

According to the mayor, temporary garbage bins will be installed in the area and green guards will be deployed to help maintain cleanliness.

“Police visibility will be heightened, particularly to monitor those consuming alcoholic drinks in public, in line with existing ordinances on curfew for minors, anti-littering, and the prohibition of drinking in public,” Treñas said.

The mayor also directed the City Veterinary Office to “ensure that no stray dogs or goats roam the area.”

Treñas reminded the public that it is “everyone’s responsibility” to maintain Iloilo Sunset Boulevard clean and orderly.

“We take pride in Iloilo City’s beauty and order, and I urge all Ilonggos and visitors alike to do their part'” he said.

“Let us respect and protect the spaces that the government has worked hard to build,” the mayor added.

The five-kilometer Iloilo Sunset Boulevard stretches from Barangay Tabucan in Mandurriao district to Barangay Cagbang in Oton, Iloilo province.IMT
