The Iloilo City Government will no longer implement a signal shutdown during the two-day highlights of the Dinagyang Festival on January 27 and 28, 2024.

There is no need, according to City Mayor Jerry Treñas, for telecommunication companies to temporarily cut off mobile phone signals.

“Waay na signal jamming. Bantayan lang sang police ta. Ubrahon lang sang pulis and ila ubra,” Treñas said during a press conference on Tuesday, Nov. 28.

The mayor believes that the Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) is capable enough to maintain peace and order without resorting to signal jamming.

In an interview with ICPO director Colonel Joeresty Coronica, he said they will abide by the city government’s decision to do away with any signal shutdown next year.

“While we prefer signal jamming, the decision of the local government unit will prevail,” he told reporters.

Last January, a modified signal jamming was implemented for several hours for the highlights of the celebration. The shutdown, which was supposed to cover only selected areas, affected the entire city as well as its neighboring towns.IMT
