Mayor Jerry Treñas has offered a cash reward of P15,000 to those who can apprehend individuals vandalizing public properties in Iloilo City.
“Dakpa niyo kag dal-a di sakon kay may kinse mil kamo… kada ulo,” Treñas said during a press conference on Monday, Feb. 24.
In a statement, the mayor said said he was “saddened” by the defacement of portable toilets or “portalets” along the the newly opened Iloilo Sunset Boulevard.
The portalets have been installed “for the convenience of Ilonggos visiting to enjoy the area.”
“The portalets do not belong to me; they belong to the people. That is government money, meaning it is for all of us,” Treñas said.
According to the mayor, those caught committing vandalism would not only be required to clean the portalets but also restrooms in all city detention centers.
“Not only will they clean the portalets, but I will also have them clean every restroom in all detention centers in the city,” he said.
Treñas appealed to residents and visitors to “be vigilant and watchful” to ensure that public properties are safeguarded.” IMT
