Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas sees no problem if former city mayor Jed Patrick decides to return to the Philippines.
“The option is really up to [former] mayor Jed to come back and answer all the allegations against him,” Treñas told IMT NEWS.
During a House quad committee hearing last week, City Representative Julienne “Jamjam” Baronda said she will try to convince Mabilog to “come home” to clear his name.
Mabilog, who was repeatedly accused by former president Rodrigo Duterte of a drug protector, left the country in August 2017 due to security concerns.
“Mabilog categorically denied the claims, however, the continuing threats from President Duterte caused Mabilog to flee the country for fear of his life,” Baronda said.
“PDEA and PNP should come clean with evidence to support ex President Duterte’s claim that Mabilog was indeed involved in the illegal drug trade and was a drug protector. Despite the accusations, no concrete proof has ever surfaced to confirm Mabilog’s alleged ties to the drug trade,” she added.
During the Duterte administration, at least 10 mayors were killed.IMT
