Mayor Jerry Treñas has directed the Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) to intensify its crackdown against illegal firecrackers and fireworks.
Those that are considered illegal include, among others, “watusi, piccolo, super lolo, atomic triangle, large Judas belt, pillbox and giant whistle bomb.”
The use of “boga” or a cannon improvised from bamboo or from PVC pipe is also prohibited.
“We will not hesitate to confiscate and destroy all these illegal firecrackers and fireworks to protect the Ilonggos,” Treñas said in a statement.
It has been a tradition among Filipinos to celebrate the New Year by making noise, in a belief it will drive away evil spirits and bad luck.IMT
