Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas is hoping that the order to return the school calendar to June until March from the current August-May calendar will be implemented “soon.”

“The extreme heat during the summer months clearly justifies the need to transfer the opening of classes from June to March of each year,” said Treñas.

“The temperature is increasing each year. Hopefully, a decision can finally be made on the transfer of the school year (SY) soon,” he added.

Last February, the Department of Education (DepEd) announced that it will it “gradually shift back” to the April to May break.

“Sa plano ng DepEd by SY 2026-2027, mid-June na po ang pasukan at by the first week of April ay simula na po ang school break,” said DepEd Undersecretary Spokesperson Michael Poa.

Meanwhile, face-to-face classes in public and private schools in the city remained suspended on Wednesday, April 3, due to “extreme heat conditions.”

Treñas issued on Tuesday, April 2, Executive Order (EO) No. 047-B extending the suspension of classes from pre-school to college.

The suspension of classes from pre-school to senior high school started on Monday, April 1.IMT
