The House of Representatives is unlikely to prioritize the impeachment process against Vice President Sara Duterte, said Iloilo Fifth District Representative Raul “Boboy” Tupas.
The country’s second highest official is facing two impeachment complaints over her alleged misuse of public funds and the death threats she supposedly made against President Bongbong Marcos.
According to Tupas, the House is currently more focused on the passage of bills that have been certified as urgent by President Bongbong Marcos as well as the ratification of the proposed P6.352-trillion national budget for 2025.
“Subong sige pa gani nga ginatapos ang iban nga mga priority bills. Pero ang pinaka-importante gid nga role sang Kongreso [ang pag-approve sang] budget para may magamit ang aton national government [next year],” he said.
The last session day of the year for both the House and Senate is Dec. 18.
Tupas also opted not to comment on the bid to impeach Duterte, saying that he has yet to read the complaints lodged by various groups.
“As of now, indi man gid ako ka komento pa because wala pa ini maplastar sa amun, wala pa maklaro gid, wala namun mabasahan,” the lawmaker said.
“Kag reviewhon man ini sang mga katapo sang Kongreso. Labi na gid may ara dira mga miyembro sang Congress nga mga legal experts, mga abogado. Sila ini ang gaistoryahanay kag upod man da kami nga ga-obserba,” Tupas further said.
The impeachment complaints are set to be transmitted to the office of Speaker Martin Romualdez next week, said House of Representatives Secretary General Reginald Velasco.
On Tuesday, Dec. 3, the Office of the President (OP) clarified that it “has nothing to do” with the impeachment complaints.IMT
