Western Visayas registered a significant increase in the number of live births among minors.
The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA-6) recorded 166 live births by girls aged 14 years old and below in 2022.
The number was higher by 44 percent compared to 115 live births logged in 2021 and was 77 percent higher than 2020’s 94 live births.
The Commission on Population and Development (CPD-6) once again called for collaborative efforts among government agencies, civil society organizations, and communities to address the rising number of teenage pregnancies in the region.
“Let us support the advancement of Adolescent Health and Development (AHD) under the PPD-POA 2023-2028,” it said.
AHD “is one of the key component programs of the Philippine Population Management Program (PPMP).” It aims “to contribute to the prevention of early and repeat pregnancies.”IMT
