Iloilo City Councilor Plaridel Nava described as “unfair” and “demoralizing” the call for the Philippine National Police’s (PNP) top officials to submit their courtesy resignations.
The call was made by Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Benjamin Abalos in a bid to cleanse the police force of links to illegal drugs.
“With all due respect to the SILG (DILG Secretary Benjur Abalos), you are demoralizing the entire PNP. Kon may ara gid man sang rotten eggs, you should address and attack the rotten eggs but do not generalize,” said Nava.
It’s “unfair” to include those decorated officers who dedicated their lives to public service, he added.
The councilor believes that the move will not solve the drug problem within the PNP organization.
“Resignation is not a solution. The solution there is a political will nga ang may ngalan nga sigurado gid should be removed from service but not generalization,” said Nava.
“Bisan paresignon mo na sila tanan kon ang illegal drug trades still ara gihapon sa likod ang mga drug lords gid ya, it will not solve the problem,” he added.
In a press conference, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. said the resignation call was his directive.
“Oh, yes. We were planning this for awhile. Well, let me be very clear. Remember, during the campaign, nung tinatanong ako kung ano ‘yung gagawin natin tungkol sa drug war or drug problem,” he told reporters.
“This is it. We approach it in entirely differently way. Alam naman natin na ‘yung problema sa drugs hindi mangyayari ‘yan kung hindi kasabwat ‘yung mga iba diyan sa police,” the President added.IMT
