Starting today, Dec. 23, the controversial Ungka flyover, which straddles Iloilo City and the town of Pavia, will be fully reopened to the public.
The full reopening of the four-lane, 453.7 lineal meters long flyover was announced by City Mayor Jerry Treñas announced yesterday, Dec. 22.
“While the flyover will be accessible starting tomorrow (Dec. 23), the DPWH (Department of Public Works and Highways) will continue the installation of steel railings on the parapet,” Treñas said in a statement.
“I appeal to motorists and pedestrians to remain cautious and follow all traffic guidelines for everyone’s safety,” he added.
Treñas currently serves as chairman of the Infrastructure Development Committee of the Regional Development Council (RDC-6).
In an advisory, the city government’s Traffic and Transport Management Unit said the flyover will remain off-limits to dump trucks, transit mixers, wingvans, trailer trucks, motorcycles, tricycles, and bicycles.
The flyover, which costs nearly P1 billion, was initially opened to traffic in September 2022, but it was closed two weeks later due to vertical displacement.IMT
