Several universities in Iloilo City emerged as best performing academic institutions in Western Visayas based on their “web presence, impact, openness and excellence.”
The University of the Philippines Visayas (UPV) ranked first in the region this year, according to the Webometrics Ranking of World Universities of the Cybermetrics Lab.
Central Philippine University (CPU) occupied the second spot while West Visayas State University (WVSU) landed third.
The University of San Agustin (USA) and John B. Lacson Foundation Maritime University (JBLFMU) claimed the fourth and fifth spots, respectively.
The University of St. La Salle took the sixth spot, followed by Aklan State University, University of Negros Occidental – Recoletos, St. Paul University Iloilo, and Colegio San Agustin Bacolod.
In the whole Philippines, UPV ranked 20th; CPU, 35th; WVSU, 37th; USA, 47th; JBLMFU, 58th; St. Paul University Iloilo, 127th; Iloilo Science and Technology (ISAT U), 175th; Iloilo Doctor’s College, 216th; and University of Iloilo, 245th.
The rankings were based on composite indicators on visibility (50 percent) and activity (50 percent).
Visibility is measured through impact by counting all the external inlinks that the university webdomain receives from third parties.
Activity, on the other hand, is measured by presence (total number of webpages hosted in the main webdomain), openness (number of rich files (pdf, doc, docx, ppt) published in dedicated websites according to the academic search engine Google Scholar) and excellence (academic papers published in high impact international journals).
Cybermetrics Lab is a research group under the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Cientificas in Spain.IMT
