The flow of traffic in Barangay Ungka, Jaro, Iloilo City and Barangay Ungka II, Pavia town is expected to improve next week with the completion of road widening works.

Engineer Jose Al Fruto, Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH-6) assistant regional director, said the widened road along the controversial Ungka Flyover will be opened to motorists on Feb. 14.

The project contractor, International Builders Corporation (IBC), is working round the clock to meet their mid-February deadline for completion, according to Fruto.

The construction of an additional lane on both sides of the road beneath the P680-million flyover was implemented to address traffic congestion in the area.

The defective four-lane flyover was closed in September last year due to vertical displacements or shifting observed in the flyover’s three piers or support structures that extend to the ground below.

In an interview last month, DPWH Secretary Manuel Bonoan said they have yet to find the solution to the “sinking” flyover.IMT
