Senator Grace Poe has welcomed the directive of the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) to allow unconsolidated jeepneys and UV express units to operate in some routes, saying that is “a win-win situation.”
In a recent statement, Poe said the operation of unconsolidated jeepneys in select routes will ensure adequate transportation for commuters, as well as provide drivers and operators with livelihood.
She also urged the LTFRB to develop “simple guidelines” to ease the reentery of drivers on the roads.
“We will continue to push for a stable, just and humane policy of PUV modernization that will give productive income to the sector, help clean the environment and alleviate the traffic situation,” according to her.
Under LTFRB’s Board Resolution No. 53 Series of 2024, unconsolidated jeepneys and UV Express can operate on more than 2,500 routes with a low number of consolidations, provided that they are registered with the Land Transportation Office and with valid Personal Passenger Accident Insurance Coverage.
They do not need to file for consolidation but are still subject to the approval of the Local Public Transport Route Plan or the Route Rationalization Plan, the Board said.IMT
