The education department in Western Visayas is discouraging schools from holding junior-senior (JS) proms and flag-raising ceremonies amid the continuing spread of the new coronavirus.
This, according to Dr. Lea Belleza, Department of Education (DepEd-6) information officer, is part of their precautionary efforts against the 2019 novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV).
Belleza stressed that the health and safety of students as well as teachers are of utmost importance.
She advised teachers to conduct flag-raising ceremonies in their respective classrooms.
The DepEd-6 is also pushing for the cancellation of other school activities that involve large numbers of learners.
The department earlier announced the suspension of several sporting events scheduled this month.IMT
