Another 19 coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) patients in Western Visayas have died, according to the June 8 bulletin issued by the Department of Health (DOH-6).
This is so far the highest single-day tally of fatalities in the region since the pandemic started in March last year.
The region’s COVID-19 death toll now stands at 1,230.
Negros Occidental accounted for the highest number of deaths at 297, followed by Bacolod City (274), Iloilo City (217), Iloilo province (208), Capiz (108), Antique (58), Aklan (57), and Guimaras (11).
Western Visayas also logged 440 new recoveries, bringing the total number of patients who recovered from the disease to 41,515.
The region has a total of 51, 934 confirmed cases of COVID-19, of which 9,173 are considered active cases.IMT
